AAA After School Tutoring: (Academics, Athletics & the Arts):
From
September through May of every year, NCC’s AAA After School Tutoring
Program operates five days a week for the
duration of the school year.
We focus on our children’s spiritual and
academic enrichment as well as creatively incorporating the arts to
develop and encourage creative skills.
Retired certified public school teachers
lead our programs along with help from tutors and committed volunteers.
Students receive assistance with homework,
academic enrichment drills and exercises to
improve math skills.
Students receive increased technological
skills through daily
access to a computer lab and time set
aside for increased reading and literacy development.
Once a week, students also receive
instruction in the arts through NCC’s partnership with local visual
artists, dancers, musicians and writers from within our community.

Summer Academic and Spiritual Enrichment Programs:
Summer
Super Stars for Christ:
Every
summer, NCC provides instruction in Bible Study, academic enrichment, to
at-risk children (grades 3rd-12th.) for a period of 5 weeks.
Every year, certified public school
teachers, teacher’s assistants and
volunteers come together to share the
gospel of Jesus Christ through building
relationships with over 100 students (and
their parents) through active participation in academics, athletics and
the arts.
NCC Prep:
created specifically for the needs of K-2nd
graders, NCC Prep acts as a practical solution to the underdeveloped
skills of young children in our community as they prepare to enter
kindergarten.
During this program we spend 5 weeks every
summer providing developmentally
appropriate
experiences to enhance a child's intellectual, social, emotional,
spiritual and physical development through fun, hands-on activities.
*Students in
these Summer programs receive academic instruction 7 hours a day, 5 days
a week for 5 weeks as well as a healthy
breakfast,
lunch and
snacks on a daily basis.
In addition to academics, we teach our
students practical life skills and well as exposing them to a variety of
speakers from our community in order to provide a variety of influences
for each child.*

Results and Tracking:
NCC incorporates the
STAR Reader Literacy Testing, a
computer-adaptive diagnostic reading assessment designed to help
identify a student’s command of phonetic
awareness and other literacy skills.
These evaluations are administered four
times
annually to all students in grades third
through twelve.
In September 2008, in addition to
Star Reader
(Because of a grant through the HIS WAY foundation) NCC began testing
using:
Star Math
and
Early Literacy.* |

NCC String
Program: The goal of the NCC String Program is to release the
creative talents of local underprivileged children by providing them
tuition-free string lessons and the privilege of owning their own
instruments. This program is an ideal environment in which to
introduce tuition-free music education for gifted children whose
families would otherwise be unable to give their child such an
opportunity. NCC is willing to provide local string teachers with
the space and students to develop a long term string program.
The benefits of children being exposed to music education include
personal development as a human being, higher academic scores, and the
chance to give back to the local community. Program director
and recent Belhaven graduate Kate
Morgan has been involved in the Jackson music
community since the age of fourteen, and is excited about developing a
long-term program which will further the musical growth and integration
of the Jackson community. For the past three years Kate has
served as principle violist for the Belhaven Chamber Orchestra and has
been active in the local folk-music community by playing fiddle in the
Old-Time band "The Jackson Jug Revival."
Friday music program:
Rev. Harvey Williams provides music instruction
to the children at NCC's Ash Street Center every Friday.
